“Wooden Ships haven’t sailed for Crosby”
It is certainly clear that David Crosby still has it. He has learned a trick or two over the course of his troubled, celebrated life and he’s here to tell the story. Mr. Crosby didn’t miss a beat when it came to words, notes, strokes on the guitar, and forever the storyteller Extraordinaire.
His voice was crisp and full of life. He’s mellowed a bit albeit some political injections along the way but the fiery “Cros” is showing a softer side these days. He circuitously mentioned not getting stoned before the concert started (his references were about pot) so he could keep his wits (memory) about him (my words not his.) Clearly he has gotten the gospel (pun intended) that old age and the experience of altered cognitive states don’t go well for remembering especially when you are in an adrenal-induced state performing in front of an auditorium filled to the brim with sexagenarions, septuagenarians, octogenarians who expect much from this childhood Woodstock favorite of the ’70s. The clash of brain/memory strength and altered states is same for all ages from teens forward. (I suppose I need to write the issues with memory and the now ever-pervasive-marijuana-promiscuity and the downfalls in particular to the development of the brain and executive functioning in a future blog.)
What was fabulous about this concert was realizing how important singing and remembering lyrics is to a healthy brain and an individual who wants to develop and keep cognitively fit whether your 17 or 70.
EXERCISE TO DEVELOP GOOD MEMORY SKILLS & KEEP COGNITIVELY FIT:
Remembering lyrics to your favorite songs, singing them on a regular basis such as when getting ready to do homework tasks (but not during homework–see “Cognitive Disrupters” in this blog) household chores, gardening, cleaning your room, organizing your desk, cooking, packing for a trip, etc.
It’s such an easy thing to do and yet so powerful for waxing the ‘ol memory muscle. It’s like drinking a strawberry smoothie full of good vitamins and enjoying the taste as if it were dessert. It’s also an easy way to get great mileage out of memory exercises.
