Remembering The 8 Days of Hanukkah

Senior Moments

Improve Your Memory by Remembering

As I await the Latkes on the 4th day of Hanukkah I am remembering who got what these last 4 days including my presents. Whether it’s Hanukkah, Christmas or Kwanzaa, see if you can really zone in on who got what for the holidays. Tracking means you have to turn on your attention. Making a concerted effort to remember means using metacognition, self talk and the habit discipline. It might go like this:

Susie got yoga pants the first day, essential oil of rose the second day, a bottle of proseco the third day and today she received a fabulous homemade gingerbread.

Metacognition: I will review the items.

Self Talk: Better make myself a note to practice the lists of Hanukkah presents every day.

Attention: Use the self talk to “purposefully” turn on your attention during present opening time.

Power of Habit: Review the day’s lists and previous days every night before I go to sleep.

Constellation of Memory Stars: Make associations like “sticky rice” (see my youtube video MyMemoryPal.com Jenn Bulka on Sticky Rice Memory Strategies.) Alas, my Story Weaving (see Youtube for “Story Weave” memory strategies too) would sound like this:

I create a picture full of associations: Susie is standing on her head in yoga pants with a menorah pattern. She is holding a glass of proseco that has a rose sticking out of it and a piece of gingerbread hanging out of her upside down mouth.

It’s got humor, absurdity and ties all together in a memorable way.

Try your Hanukkah or Christmas presents remembering and fire up those synapes for a great way to end the year!!!!!

Remember me until next time,
