See the Memory Stars to help with remembering important occasions.
Ever heard the expression “It Takes a Village?” Well the ‘village’ in remembering is series of cognitive connectors (intermediaries) that come together to form the skill to recall information. MyMemoryPal curriculum refers to this as a CONSTELLATION OF MEMORY STARS. I talk about this a lot and in many ways with many synonyms; redundancy helps the brain recall.
Imagine, for the sake of Hanukkah, 8 memory stars that are “super memory skills” and memorize them. Why? Because if you are doing a daily task to support your brain’s memory skills’ growth, you will have this list with you where ever you go. If you are visiting the North Pole you can pull out your ‘8 Stars’ to remember a scientific fact about global warming or even about the things you saw in Santa’s workshop (how’s that for mixing holiday metaphors?)
The biggies are (this is not an inclusive list):
Associations: Make associations as in story weave from the previous blog.
Create a picture in your mind’s eye or a movie.
Use humor.
Use absurdity.
Connect to the opposite.
Turn on your attention without interruptions.
Repetition, rehearsal, repetition, rehearsal…
Use Power of Habit: revisit the item(s) within the hour, within 8 hours and certainly as soon as you get up in the am. This may mean using reminders such as a postit or a phone alarm.
What do you see when you look up into the stars? That’s right: the Constellation of Memory Stars and its 8 memory tools above.
Merry HoHos!
Remember me until next time,
